Tunduma – Songwe
CCM presidential candidate Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan continued her campaign trail in Songwe Region on August 3, 2025, holding major rallies in Tunduma and Vwawa constituencies.
In Tunduma, Dr. Samia thanked residents for turning out in large numbers, especially the youth for their strong solidarity.
She told the gathering that Tanzania’s development journey will move even faster if she is re-elected to lead the country from 2025 to 2030.
She pledged to strengthen key sectors such as education, health, water, and electricity. Her commitments include building more schools, continuing the free education policy, and increasing student loans to ensure equal access to education.
She also promised to establish VETA vocational training centers in Songwe Region to equip young people with skills for employment and self-reliance.
On health, she assured residents that new hospitals, health centers, and dispensaries will be built to bring services closer to communities. Regarding water supply, she pledged to complete major water projects to ensure over 90 percent of both rural and urban households gain access to clean and safe water.
Dr. Samia further noted that every household will be connected to electricity.
She highlighted that her flagship Health Insurance for All initiative has already entered the pilot stage, enabling the government to cover medical costs for the most vulnerable citizens.
Turning to infrastructure, she cited improvements at Dar es Salaam Port, which have increased cargo volumes passing through Tunduma.
She said the government has started upgrading the TANZAM highway and pledged to complete the Igawa–Tunduma section, including the 75-kilometer Songwe–Tunduma stretch. She also vowed to modernize the TAZARA railway for faster cargo transportation.
She promised to complete the construction of a major inland port covering 1,800 acres in Katenjele, Mpemba Ward, to ease congestion caused by trucks. Supporting infrastructure such as bypass roads, modern parking facilities, and new weighbridges will also be built.
To reduce delays at the border, she pledged to fast-track cargo documentation before arrival and to engage with Zambian authorities to ensure 24-hour operations at the border.
On energy, Dr. Samia urged Tunduma residents to vote for her in large numbers so she can complete the 730 kV power project running from Iringa and Njombe to Songwe.
Of this capacity, 430 kV will serve Songwe while 300 kV will be exported to Zambia. She said talks on electricity trade are already underway, while domestically her government will continue promoting clean energy solutions for households.
Vwawa
Addressing a rally in Vwawa, Dr. Samia pledged to complete the construction of the Kamsamba road and ensure that all districts are connected to the regional headquarters with tarmac roads.
On agriculture, she assured farmers that fertilizer shortages are being addressed, noting that planting fertilizer for tobacco and other crops has already arrived and is in the distribution process.
She praised farmers for their achievements, stating that Tanzania ranks second in Africa in food production, particularly maize, with a 128 percent food self-sufficiency level. She attributed this success to the government’s input subsidy program.
On energy, she emphasized that electricity is no longer a major challenge in Songwe but pledged to continue with the 730 kV power line project.
Out of this, 430 kV will serve southern regions, while 300 kV will be exported to Zambia under an energy trade arrangement. She also highlighted the importance of clean energy and promised to involve the private sector in building distribution facilities.
For youth empowerment, she reaffirmed her commitment to education loans and the establishment of VETA centers in Songwe. She stressed that tuition and training costs will be covered by the government, ensuring that all young people with the ambition and ability to study can access skills training and secure future employment.
