The fourth season of the Lina PG Tour has officially begun at the Gymkhana Golf Course in Morogoro, attracting 137 players from different parts of the country.
The tournament, which first took place in 2024, was created to honor the late Lina Nkya, a former national women’s golf team player who was known for her dedication and love for the sport.
Tournament director Ayne Magombe explained that the event is designed to give both professional and amateur players an opportunity to showcase their skills.
Of the registered participants, 65 are professional and junior golfers, while 72 are amateur players. The tournament will run for four days, from September 25 to 28, covering a total of 72 holes.
“As always, the Said Nkya family has organized this tournament to honor Lina’s memory. We call on all golf enthusiasts, from Morogoro and other regions, to participate and take advantage of this platform. The Lina Tour is more than a competition; it is a way to develop skills, nurture talent, and increase opportunities for players,” Magombe said.
Junior golfer Prosper Emmanuel from Lugalo Club expressed his excitement and determination to perform well in the tournament.
“Every competition requires proper preparation. I have been training hard, and with God’s help, I hope to do my best. I encourage other players to participate and make the most of this opportunity,” he said, praising the Lina family for organizing a professional and inspiring tournament.
Professional golfer Fadhil Nkya from Gymkhana Dar es Salaam Club urged young people to take up the sport and participate in the tournament.
“Golf is a game for everyone. The Lina Tour gives players a chance to train, improve their skills, and prepare for international competitions,” he said.
Since its inception, the Lina PG Tour has become one of the most anticipated golf events in Tanzania, combining competition with the goal of promoting the sport nationwide. Organizers plan to hold five tournaments annually, and with additional support from sponsors, they hope to expand further and attract even more players.
The Lina Tour not only commemorates Lina Nkya’s contribution to golf but also continues to inspire new generations of players.
Through tournaments like this, the sport is steadily growing in popularity, providing young Tanzanians with a platform to discover their talent, improve their game, and potentially represent the country on an international stage.
