Kazita Primary School pupils from Muheza District, Tanga Region, have undertaken a practical learning tour of the Amboni Caves, a heritage site renowned for its cultural history and role in Tanzania’s independence struggle.

The pupils, guided by their teacher Jao Kalesi popularly known as Mwl. Pawa used the visit as an opportunity to learn about history, cultural heritage, conservation, tourism, and environmental management.

Senior Assistant Commissioner for Tourism and Marketing at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Mariam Kobelo, lauded the school for instilling conservation awareness in the younger generation.

She urged the pupils to become ambassadors for the caves, noting that heritage sites play a key role in shaping identity and promoting sustainable tourism.

She further praised Mr Kalesi for his creative teaching approach, including the use of music such as Mbosso’s hit Pawa to inspire and motivate pupils.

Amboni Caves Chief Conservator, Ramadhan Rashid, disclosed that the caves attracted 19,743 visitors in the 2024/25 financial year, generating over TZS 40 million in revenue.

He said this reflects the site’s growing importance in supporting national development through tourism.

Speaking on behalf of his classmates, pupil Juma Omari Mchevu expressed gratitude to the NCAA for the opportunity to visit the caves, calling on parents to support practical learning by taking children to heritage sites.

The Amboni Caves are among key attractions managed by the NCAA. The authority is currently improving infrastructure at the site to attract more visitors and enhance the learning and tourism experience.
