Galaxy Food & Beverages Ltd, the company behind the popular Kilimanjaro Fresh brand, has grown from a modest dairy processor into a national leader in Tanzania’s dairy industry, thanks to strategic support from the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB).
Registered in 2015 and starting dairy operations in 2018, Galaxy Food has built a reputation for quality and innovation.
Its product line now includes fresh milk, yoghurt, cultured milk, butter and cheese, reaching thousands of households every day.
Despite this growth, the company faced significant hurdles.
“We struggled with limited processing capacity, reliance on external suppliers for raw milk, and a weak presence outside Arusha,” said Mr Augustine Lyana, Galaxy’s Production Manager.
In response, Galaxy partnered with TADB to scale up operations.
The partnership enabled the company to establish a modern dairy farm with 240 improved breed cows, install a state-of-the-art UHT processing line, and expand distribution from Arusha to Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Mwanza. Plans are now underway to penetrate regional markets in East Africa.
“This partnership has delivered major economic and social impact,” Mr Lyana said.
He added, “It has created more than 200 jobs, especially for young women, strengthened the dairy value chain, and improved milk quality and safety. Today, Tanzania is well-positioned to compete in the East African market with internationally recognized standards.”
Galaxy Food’s growth illustrates how TADB’s financing is helping to unlock the potential of agribusiness, strengthen food security and create inclusive opportunities nationwide.
Mr. Samson Siyengo, Business Development Officer said the support provided by TADB to Kilimanjaro Fresh has yielded positive results, including strengthening the dairy value chain and improving food safety, as milk is now available in abundance.
According to him, employment has also increased, with over 200 people gaining jobs. The company has successfully accessed markets in various parts of Arusha and even regional markets.
The current strategy is to expand to international markets to further stimulate economic growth in our country.
"Before TADB’s intervention, the company faced several challenges include lack of proper milk processing facilities, shortage of high-quality dairy cows, and limited access to markets outside Arusha," he said.
After TADB’s support, the company received 240 additional cows and upgraded milk processing machinery, leading to the positive outcomes.
Kilimanjaro Fresh is now more than a brand — it is a symbol of innovation, resilience and industrial growth in Tanzania.
