Police lift Dar es Salaam curfew following President’s directive

By Our Reporter, Dodoma

The Tanzania Police Force has lifted the restriction that had barred Dar es Salaam residents from engaging in outdoor activities after 6 p.m., following fresh directives from President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The order, which was first issued on October 29, 2025, by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Camillus Wambura, required residents to remain indoors after 6 p.m. as a safety measure. The move came in response to incidents of political unrest and violence that occurred during the general election period.

In a public notice released on Monday, November 3, 2025, the Police Headquarters in Dodoma confirmed the lifting of the restriction.

“The order that was issued on October 29, 2025, for residents of Dar es Salaam has been officially lifted,” the statement read.

Authorities expressed appreciation to citizens for their cooperation during the period of heightened security and assured the public that peace and stability have now been fully restored in the city.

The Police Force emphasized its continued commitment to ensuring safety, security, and the protection of all citizens nationwide.
