For many residents of Geita, the annual International Mining Technology Exhibition is more than just a display of machines and mineral products it is a chance to gain knowledge about how Tanzania’s vast mineral wealth can translate into better livelihoods.
As crowds streamed into the Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan Bombambili Grounds, local people said they hoped to learn about job opportunities, safety in small-scale mining, and community benefits from the industry.
“I came to see the technology, but I also want to know how small miners like us can benefit without harming the environment,” said a young miner from Geita town.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Minerals, Eng. Yahya Samamba, encouraged exhibitors to meet that expectation by prioritizing public education.
He said the exhibition is not only a showcase of products but also a platform to provide accurate information to citizens.
“When people understand the sector better, they can make informed choices and fully benefit from these resources,” he noted.
The exhibition has attracted both large and small players in the sector, including government institutions, mining companies, and service providers.
Exhibitors were urged to use the platform to explain how the industry contributes to employment, infrastructure, and the national economy.
Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Msafiri Mbibo, also toured the booths. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is expected to officially open the event later today.
