The lessons learned from CHAN 2024 will guide preparations for AFCON 2027, ensuring the tournament sets a new standard in organization and execution.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on August 1, 2025, Neema Msitha, Secretary-General of the National Sports Council and Secretary of the CHAN Organizing Committee, said the tournament provided valuable insights for future planning.
“We have learned a great deal from CHAN 2024. We will build on our successes and address areas that need improvement, including enhancing fan engagement in stadiums,” Msitha said.
She expressed gratitude to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for recognizing the committee’s efforts, particularly in stadium infrastructure and overall organization.
“CAF noted that while our infrastructure met the required standards, more work is needed to promote tourism and increase fan attendance,” she added.
A task force of key stakeholders will study these challenges and present recommendations to the committee.
Msitha emphasized that these insights will be acted upon to ensure Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda co-hosts of AFCON 2027 deliver an even better tournament.
“CHAN 2024 has been an important learning experience. It gives us a benchmark to plan for AFCON and aim even higher in the next edition,” she noted.
She also highlighted that government strategies for AFCON 2027 will build on CHAN 2024 preparations, with further improvements expected in new stadiums in Arusha and Dar es Salaam.
In addition, CHAN 2024 created jobs for Tanzanians in sectors such as transport, accommodation, catering, and other services, contributing to local economic benefits.
