The 2025 Uhuru Torch race has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to infrastructure development by inspecting and inaugurating key road projects worth TSh 4.75 billion across Tabora Region.
Led by the National Torch Leader, Mr. Ali Ussi, the symbolic race covered all eight local government authorities in the region, where six major projects under the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) were launched.
The projects include completed works and those still under construction, with Mr. Ussi laying foundation stones and cutting ribbons to officially mark their significance.
The councils benefiting from the initiative are Uyui District Council, Nzega Town Council, Nzega District Council, Tabora Municipal Council, Igunga District Council, and Urambo District Council.
“These projects are not just roads—they represent access to opportunity, connection to markets, and faster delivery of essential services,” Mr. Ussi said during the tour.
“This is how the government translates promises into practical improvements in people’s daily lives.”he added
The infrastructure upgrades are expected to ease movement for thousands of residents, reduce transportation costs, and enhance the delivery of education, healthcare, and agricultural services, particularly in remote communities.
The Uhuru Torch, a long-standing national symbol of unity and development, continues to play a vital role in monitoring transparency and fostering accountability in public projects.
In Tabora, its presence sent a strong message: that development must reach every corner of the country.
The visit also served to encourage community participation in safeguarding and sustaining the investments made under TARURA, as part of a broader strategy to uplift rural and urban standards of living.
As the Uhuru Torch continues its journey across the nation, citizens are urged to take pride in these achievements and remain active partners in Tanzania’s development story.
