The Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) has participated in the 4th edition of Pharmatech & Health East Africa, held in Dar es Salaam, to promote investment opportunities and highlight Tanzania’s growing healthcare and pharmaceutical market.
Speaking on behalf of TMDA, Mr. Keddy Mathias Kedmanga, Drug Inspector at TMDA, emphasized the authority’s role as a government agency under the Ministry of Health in ensuring the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines, medical devices, and diagnostics.
“The laws and standards we apply are internationally recognized. The same information and regulations used abroad are equally applied here, and our presence guarantees this with the highest level of scrutiny,” Mwanga said.
During the exhibition, TMDA also used the platform to register premises, organizations, and industries from both local and international markets, aiming to create an enabling environment for sector stakeholders.
With a population of more than 60 million people, Tanzania is positioned as a strategic market with preferential access to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional bloc, a shared market of 24 countries.
TMDA also outlined its strategic plan to promote local manufacturing industries, reduce the cost of importing raw materials, and lower the overall cost of locally produced products.
On the investment front, the governmentthrough the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) has reiterated its commitment to providing investment zones, fast-tracking registration applications, and removing unnecessary charges to encourage ease of doing business.
