Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is set to join thousands of Tanzanians at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium tomorrow as the Taifa Stars face Morocco in the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024).
Government Spokesperson and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Gerson Msigwa, told reporters today, August 21, 2025, that Majaliwa’s presence symbolizes the government’s full backing for the national team.
“The Prime Minister has promised to stand with Tanzanians from the first to the last minute of the match, fulfilling President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive that the trophy should eventually be received either at State House in Dar es Salaam or Chamwino,” said Msigwa.
He described the encounter as a moment of national pride, noting that victory would write a new chapter in Tanzania’s football history.
Simba SC Communications Manager Ahmed Ally also urged fans to fill the stadium and rally behind the national team.
“This is the time to showcase our spirit, strength, and pride as a nation. Every Tanzanian has a duty to stand with the Stars as they fight for the country’s flag,” he said.
Ally emphasized that while attendance in the group stages was not impressive, the players delivered on the pitch.
“Tomorrow, against Morocco, we must match their energy in the stands. This is our chance to prove we are equal to the challenge,” he added.
Sports analyst Ally Kamwe echoed the call, stressing that the quarterfinal tie could define Tanzania’s destiny in the competition.
“There is no reason for fear. Our players have shown great quality and will prove to Morocco that they are a force to be reckoned with,” he said.
Kamwe further noted that Head Coach Hemedi Suleiman has already assured fans of the team’s readiness.
“The morale in camp is very high, and the players are determined to make the nation proud,” he said.
Taifa Stars will be seeking to secure a place in the semifinals, keeping alive their dream of lifting the CHAN trophy for the first time in the country’s football history.
