The race to the semi-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 reaches a decisive stage tomorrow as Tanzania’s Taifa Stars take on Morocco in a quarter-final clash at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Tanzania head into the knockout tie after finishing second in Group B with three wins, one draw and a single defeat.
Their opponents, Morocco, advanced as runners-up from Group A, recording three victories and one loss.
The encounter promises to be a high-stakes duel between two evenly matched sides seeking continental glory.
Taifa Stars head coach Hemed Seleiman Moroco said the squad is well-prepared and fully focused on seizing the opportunity.
“We respect Morocco, but we do not fear them,” he told reporters in Dar es Salaam on Thursday.
“We are ready to play, and we have players with international experience at both club and national team level. We have worked on the weaknesses from previous matches, and our aim is to deliver a strong performance tomorrow.”he added
Defender Shomari Kapombe, one of the team’s most experienced players, echoed his coach’s confidence, underlining the players’ determination to rise to the occasion.
“We are motivated and proud of how far we have come. This is halfway to achieving the targets we set for ourselves,” Kapombe said.
“Tomorrow, we will give our best, respecting our opponents but fighting to get a result that makes our country proud.”he added
He added that the fixture presents a chance for the Taifa Stars to showcase the growth of Tanzanian football on the continental stage.
The winner of tomorrow’s contest will secure a spot in the semi-finals and move within touching distance of the CHAN 2024 crown, keeping alive hopes of lifting one of Africa’s most prestigious football titles.
