The Tanzania Gender Networking Programme (TGNP) has issued an official statement addressing the spread of unofficial information on social media concerning its governance.
TGNP clarified that the appointment of the acting Executive Director falls under the Board’s authority as stipulated in Article 19 (viii) of the TGNP Constitution 2021.
The decision was taken to ensure organizational continuity and stability following the completion of the previous Executive Director’s term, while recruitment for a new Executive Director was still underway.
The organization emphasized that it has established systems and procedures for leadership succession, which are well known to all TGNP members.
TGNP strongly refuted allegations of embezzlement and misuse of funds, calling them unfounded and intended to create confusion.
“These are serious claims that require evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. TGNP maintains a robust and transparent financial management system, with all funds subject to regular internal and external audits. We are prepared to provide full accountability in the appropriate forum,” the statement said.
The organization urged stakeholders to disregard false and misleading information and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality and women’s rights in Tanzania.
TGNP assured that its programs and activities continue without interruption, maintaining full transparency and accountability.
The Board also announced that it is investigating the source of the misinformation and warned that criminal legal action will be taken under Section 16 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 14 of 2015 against anyone found publishing or disseminating false or misleading information with intent to defame or mislead the public. The notice was issued by the TGNP Board Chairperson on behalf of the Board.
