Farmers, pastoralists, and the public have been urged to fully utilise the ongoing Nane Nane agricultural exhibitions to embrace innovative technologies showcased by institutions such as the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) to enhance productivity and promote environmental conservation.

Tanga Regional Commissioner, Ambassador Dr. Batilda Burian, made the remarks after visiting the TFS pavilion at the Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere Grounds in Morogoro, where the Eastern Zone exhibitions are taking place.

She commended TFS for its pivotal role in forest protection, environmental education, and the promotion of sustainable forest resource use.

“I want to sincerely applaud TFS for the incredible work they are doing in preserving our forests and educating citizens. These exhibitions offer a vital opportunity for farmers and livestock keepers to gain practical knowledge on how to safeguard the environment and mitigate threats such as wildfires, which are increasingly affecting our natural forests,” said Dr. Burian.

She urged members of the public to visit the pavilion to explore the innovative technologies on display and learn new ways to improve environmental resilience in their communities.

Speaking at the event, TFS Principal Forest Extension and Public Outreach Officer for the Eastern Zone, Shabani Kiulah, said the agency has remained steadfast in educating the public on the safe use of fire, particularly during land preparation, to reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfires.

“At this year’s exhibitions, we are equipping citizens with modern techniques for forest management and fire prevention, including how to use controlled fire without harming the environment. We encourage all stakeholders to visit our pavilion, interact with our experts, and join national efforts in conserving forest resources,” Kiulah said.

He added that TFS is also reaching out to students and young people visiting the pavilion to instill a culture of environmental stewardship among future generations.

The 2025 edition of the Nane Nane exhibitions is being held under the theme “Choose Capable Leaders for Sustainable Development in Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries.” The Eastern Zone event has drawn participants from the regions of Morogoro, Coast, Dar es Salaam, and Tanga.
