TAPSA President unveils exciting details of PharmaFestival 2025

By Charles Mkoka

The President of the Tanzania Pharmaceutical Students Association (TAPSA), Seniyumva Karuma Saad, on 21st August, shared new details about the upcoming Pharma Festival, which will take place from 20th to 22nd November 2025 under the theme “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.”

Speaking during the Pharmatech and Health East Africa discussion, Mr. Saad explained that the festival is more than a calendar event; it is a chance for the pharmaceutical community to pause, reflect on its progress, and imagine a stronger, more resilient future. He described it as a platform that blends professional dialogue with the energy of young people who are eager to shape the direction of pharmacy in Tanzania.

The three days have been carefully designed to capture both the challenges and opportunities facing the field. The opening day will center on strengthening the foundations of the pharmacy business. According to Mr. Saad, this is not just about rules and regulations but about ensuring that institutions, professionals, and communities work hand in hand to serve Tanzanians better.

The second day will pivot towards students and young professionals. With career fairs, exhibitions, and networking activities on the agenda, it aims to give participants more than information — it offers them perspective. Mr. Saad emphasized that many students only understand the profession through textbooks, yet the real test begins when they must navigate the job market, internship placements, or volunteering roles. “This is the day where we want them to step into the real world, to see what lies beyond their coursework, and to meet the people already walking that path,” he reflected.

The festival will close on a lighter note, with a day dedicated to wellness and community. From Pharmton Season 3 to Zumba sessions, live music, and running activities, the final day is designed to celebrate the human side of the profession. For Mr. Saad, this balance is essential: “Pharmacy is about science, yes, but also about people. We must remember our work is rooted in humanity, and part of that means creating spaces for joy, health, and connection.”

At its core, the festival will showcase innovation, spark collaboration, and nurture networks that extend far beyond the event. It is expected to draw attention from across the country, with former President Jakaya Kikwete set to grace the gathering as Guest of Honor — a reflection of how significant this moment is not only for students and professionals, but for Tanzania’s wider health sector.
