Tanzanian Writer Peter Goima Mwamwingila Appointed Chair of PAWA’s Young African Writers Committee

Tanzanian author Peter Goima Mwamwingila has been appointed Chair of the newly established Committee on Young African Writers under the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA). 

The decision was reached at a PAWA Council meeting held on July 9, 2024, in Rabat, Morocco.

The committee, composed of six members, is tasked with developing and implementing strategies to promote collaboration among national writers’ associations that are affiliated with PAWA.

Its mandate specifically targets younger members between 18 and 45 years of age, aiming to elevate their presence and engagement within the broader literary landscape of Africa.

In addition to Mwamwingila, the committee includes Charles Olince as Vice Chairperson, Justine Alorwu as Secretary, Abbas Mohammad as Treasurer, Wole Adedoyin as Publicity Secretary, and Anna Zgambo as Welfare Secretary.

Mwamwingila, best known for his book Bima ya Penzi, is widely acknowledged for his dedication to advancing creative writing as a respected and sustainable profession in Tanzania and across the continent.

His appointment highlights the growing recognition of youth voices in shaping African literature today.
