Tanzania’s national football team, Taifa Stars, has been rewarded with TZS 40 million following their goalless draw against the Central African Republic in the final group-stage match played on Saturday.
The result confirmed Tanzania as Group B leaders with 10 points, earning them a spot in the quarterfinals alongside Madagascar.
Taifa Stars progressed without suffering a single defeat, a feat that has been hailed as a sign of steady progress in the country’s football.
Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, officially handed over the money to the players as a gesture of recognition for their performance.
The ministry contributed TZS 20 million, while the remaining amount was provided by the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila.
“This is a contribution from the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, together with the Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, who had earlier pledged his support. Today I am handing over a total of TZS 40 million as recognition for your achievement,” Prof. Kabudi said during the presentation.
He praised Taifa Stars for their discipline and determination, stressing that topping the group stage reflects Tanzania’s growing strength in regional and continental football.
