Tanzania tourism revenue soars to $3.9 billion under president Samia

Tanzania tourism earnings have surged to USD 3.9 billion in 2025, up from USD 700 million in 2021, signaling a strong post-pandemic rebound and policy-driven growth under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

According to the ruling CCM party’s 2025–2030 manifesto, the sector is projected to maintain this upward trajectory through 2030, positioning tourism as a central pillar of the economy.

The increase in revenue coincides with a rise in the number of licensed tour operators, which climbed from 2,885 in 2021 to 3,735 in 2025.

Analysts view this expansion as a driver of employment opportunities and a catalyst for investment in hospitality, transport, and cultural tourism.

Industry observers attribute the growth to government reforms aimed at improving infrastructure, easing visa processes, and aggressive marketing campaigns such as “The Royal Tour,” which boosted Tanzania’s global profile.

Projections suggest that, if current trends hold, the sector could contribute a record share to GDP by 2030, reducing reliance on traditional exports.
