Tanzania stock market capitalization jumps 29.8% under Samia

The market capitalization of Tanzania’s domestic listed companies has risen nearly 30% since President Samia Suluhu Hassan took office, driven by economic reforms and higher share prices, official data shows.

The capitalization of local firms on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange climbed to TZS 12.24 trillion ($4.6 billion) in 2024 from TZS 9.43 trillion in 2021, an increase of TZS 2.81 trillion, or 29.8%.

Total market capitalization grew 16.45% to TZS 17.87 trillion from TZS 15.35 trillion over the same period.

Officials attribute the gains to policies under Samia’s administration that boosted investor confidence and improved liquidity, lifting prices of stocks such as CRDB Bank Plc, NMB Bank Plc, Swissport Tanzania Plc, Twiga Cement Plc, and Tanzania Breweries Plc.

“The increase reflects sound economic management and positive market sentiment,” the official a statement says.

The performance underscores the government’s focus on macroeconomic stability and private sector growth since Samia took office in 2021.
