The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening tourism ties between Zanzibar and the Tanzanian mainland through its liaison office in Mpendae, Zanzibar.
Speaking during a working visit on August 5, 2025, TANAPA’s Conservation Commissioner, Musa Nassoro Kuji, commended the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and its tourism institutions—including the Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors (ZATI), Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA), Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT), and Zanzibar Association of Tour Operators (ZATO)—for their continued collaboration with TANAPA’s liaison office.
“I commend the strong cooperation between ZATI and TANAPA in various investment forums, which has helped connect Zanzibar-based investors with opportunities in our national parks,” said Commissioner Kuji. “The establishment of TANAPA’s Zanzibar Liaison Office is a strategic initiative to promote both domestic and international tourism. This office acts as a gateway to mainland attractions.”
Commissioner Kuji urged the office to intensify its promotional efforts through Zanzibar’s media platforms, highlighting the unique attractions available across Tanzania’s national parks.
On her part, the Head of the Zanzibar Liaison Office, Assistant Conservation Commissioner Dr. Halima Kiwango, noted that the partnerships fostered through the office have already yielded tangible results.
These include the introduction of a new skydiving tourism product in Saadani National Park, the mobilization of major investors for infrastructure development in Mikumi, Ruaha, Mkomazi, and Nyerere national parks, and the formal allocation of land by the Zanzibar Government for the construction of a permanent liaison office.
“Thanks to the support of President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi’s administration, TANAPA has been allocated land in Zanzibar to further institutionalize our presence and deepen collaboration,” Dr. Kiwango said.
Since its official launch in November 2024, the TANAPA Zanzibar Liaison Office has engaged over 500 stakeholders through tourism exhibitions, investment forums, and strategic meetings aimed at enhancing visibility and cross-regional tourism development.
