Taania's national football team, Taifa Stars, kicked off their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) nzcampaign in style with a commanding 2-0 win over Burkina Faso, earning both points and praise along with a TZS 60 million cash reward from national leaders.
The financial incentive was contributed by several high-ranking officials in recognition of the team’s strong performance.
TZS 20 million was donated by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, and delivered to the team by Government Spokesperson and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Gerson Msigwa.
An additional TZS 20 million was contributed by the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, while the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Amos Makalla, added another TZS 20 million.
In their remarks, the leaders commended the players and technical bench for lifting the nation’s spirits and showcasing Tanzania’s growing football potential on the continental stage.
Taifa Stars head coach, Mr. Hemed Suleiman Ali popularly known as "Morocco" expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Samia for her unwavering support and motivational efforts that continue to inspire the team.
He also acknowledged the government's commitment and collaboration in ensuring the team is well-prepared and supported throughout the CHAN tournament.
Taifa Stars will return to action on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, when they face Mauritania in their second group stage match.
