Outgoing Bukombe Member of Parliament Dr. Doto Mashaka Biteko has reaffirmed that public service, especially as an MP, must be rooted in the will and trust of the people.
He made this clear on Saturday, August 3, 2025, when he addressed delegates of the Bukombe District General Meeting, where he sought endorsement to stand again as a parliamentary candidate under the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
His remarks came during a session to introduce CCM parliamentary and councilor aspirants in seven wards within Bukombe Constituency Katente, Ng’anzo, Bulangwa, Namonge, Busonzo, Runzewe West, and Butinzya.
Speaking before the packed hall of delegates, Dr. Biteko reminded his fellow party members that leadership is not a personal entitlement but a responsibility given and taken by the people.
“If you truly want to serve as a Member of Parliament, go back to the people. This job belongs to them. They are the ones who give and take it. That’s why I always return home after every assignment. And every time I come back, your warm welcome lifts my spirit,” he told the gathering.
Dr. Biteko, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, used the occasion to reflect on the past five years, describing them as years of hard work, unity, and productive collaboration between leaders and party members.
“These five years have been filled with action and achievement—made possible because of the solidarity we’ve shared. The respect CCM enjoys today in Bukombe is the result of that teamwork,” he said.
Appealing to the delegates for their support, Dr. Biteko said, “I have returned today not only to say thank you but also to humbly ask for your votes. I’m ready to continue serving Bukombe if you give me the mandate.”
In a surprising move that underlined his confidence in the local electorate, Dr. Biteko announced that he would not appoint polling agents during the party primaries.
“I won’t assign polling agents at the voting stations. I don’t need them—because the honest, trustworthy people of Bukombe are my agents,” he said, drawing applause.
Dr. Biteko's statement echoes a broader message of trust and accountability as CCM gears up for internal nominations ahead of the 2025 General Election.
His emphasis on grassroots engagement and citizen power is expected to resonate widely among party loyalists and ordinary voters alike.
