TABEDO seeks stronger partnerships to boost Beekeeping sector

The Tanzania Beekeeping Development Organisation (TABEDO) has unveiled plans to step up efforts to grow the country’s beekeeping sector and is appealing for greater collaboration from stakeholders to make it happen.

TABEDO’s board today met in Dodoma with its patron, retired Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda, to present a progress report and highlight areas needing urgent support.

According to TABEDO secretary Catherine Peter, the organisation registered in 2015 under the Companies Act brings together beekeepers, processors, traders, equipment suppliers, researchers, and academics to promote the industry and represent it in both local and international forums.

“Our priority is to strengthen stakeholder networks, champion their interests, and work closely with government in policy and regulatory reviews,” she said.

Since 2022, TABEDO has rolled out a strategic plan, set up a sector coordination framework, participated in major exhibitions such as Saba Saba and Nane Nane, and provided leadership training to members.

It now seeks land in Dodoma for a permanent training and meeting centre, alongside digital upgrades to its membership system.

Commending the organisation’s progress, Mr Pinda urged it to focus on high-production regions such as Kigoma, Katavi, Tabora, and Dodoma, expand its reach to district and ward levels, and strengthen ties with the Tanzania Forest Services Agency and the Beekeeping Training Institute.

TABEDO says it will continue championing environmental conservation through beekeeping while helping members secure funding to grow their enterprises.
