Swimmers across Tanzania are being urged to register for the upcoming Open Water Swimming competition, set for October 12 at the scenic beaches of Mji Mwema, Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam.
Originally scheduled for August 31, the event was postponed after clubs requested additional time to prepare their athletes.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Ramadhan Namkoveka, Secretary of the Open Water Committee under the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA), said the competition is open to swimmers from all clubs.
He emphasized that the goal is to attract strong competitors who could represent Tanzania at international levels.
“This is the first continental-level Open Water event in mainland Tanzania since the committee established these competitions. A similar event took place in Zanzibar last year, and this provides an important platform for young swimmers to demonstrate their skills,” Namkoveka said.
He added that organizers expect well-prepared participants to showcase their talent in what promises to be a historic competition along Mji Mwema’s beaches.
