Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) has been declared the overall winner and took first place among training and research institutions at the Eastern Zone Nanenane Agricultural Show held at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Grounds in Morogoro.
The event showcased modern agricultural technologies including irrigation farming, productive livestock keeping, advanced fishing techniques, and high-quality crop processing.
SUA’s success is credited to the combined efforts of university staff and students who presented innovative research and technologies that are advancing Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
In his closing remarks, Tanga Regional Commissioner Ambassador Dr. Batilda Buriani praised the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the positive changes in agriculture. She emphasized this year’s theme: “Choose good leaders for sustainable development in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries 2025,” urging voters to elect leaders who drive progress and address challenges effectively.
Dr. Buriani highlighted that the business-to-business platform at the show provided farmers, livestock keepers, fishermen, and extension officers with valuable training on value chains, marketing, packaging, financial services, and technology adoption.
The platform also linked researchers, producers, and buyers, fostering agricultural transformation.
Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Malima noted that the show’s success will be sustained through major investments in 24-hour water supply infrastructure at the Nanenane grounds.
He announced plans to establish the venue as a permanent vegetable market every Friday through Sunday, encouraging locals to utilize the facility.
Additionally, Malima said the site will be developed into an entertainment and live animal exhibition center to enhance its role in the community.
Other winners at the show included the National Service (JKT), the Prisons Service, Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA), and several district councils from the Coastal, Morogoro, Tanga, and Dar es Salaam regions, including Mkuranga and Mlimba districts.
