The Government, through the Rural Energy Agency (REA), has successfully electrified all 440 villages in Manyara Region and is now extending electricity connections to sub-villages to boost social and economic development.

This was confirmed on August 27, 2025, by the Chairman of the REA Board, Ambassador (Rtd) Major General Jacob Kingu, during a field visit to ongoing electrification projects.

He also met contractors overseeing the projects and witnessed residents in Chemchem Village, Soraa Sub-village, receiving electricity for the first time.

“We have completed electricity connections in all 440 villages. Our focus now is on reaching sub-villages so that every resident can access this vital service,” said Ambassador Kingu.

He urged contractors to complete projects on time, noting that punctual delivery not only benefits residents but also strengthens contractors’ credibility with the Government, opening opportunities for future projects.

Ambassador Kingu also emphasized the need to educate communities on the importance of electricity to ensure the service translates into tangible social and economic benefits.

Project Engineer from China Railway Seventh Group Company Limited (CRSG), Estheria Fumbuka, was instructed to deliver poles and other infrastructure on schedule, targeting completion by September 2025.

Similarly, Project Engineer from Nakuroi Investment Company Limited, James James, was reminded to adhere to contractual timelines to minimize inconvenience to residents.

The ongoing projects include the Rural Electrification Development Project Phase 2C (REDP 2C), worth TZS 37.7 billion, and the Household Electrification Project 2A (HEP-2A), valued at TZS 13.7 billion.

These initiatives aim to expand electricity access to sub-villages previously without power, driving economic growth and improving livelihoods in Manyara.
