The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has today celebrated the achievements of Tanzanian participants in its Long-Term Training Program (LTTP) while sending off the newest cohort of scholars to pursue advanced studies in Japan.
The 2025 ABE/LTTP Reporting, Sendoff, and Networking Event was attended by Mr. Hashimoto Jin, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan; Ms. Sophia Abdallah Kanyegele, Assistant Director of Human Resource Development representing the Permanent Secretary of the President’s Office, Public Service Management, and Good Governance; LTTP participants; returnees; and other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the event, Mr. ARA Hitoshi, Chief Representative of JICA Tanzania, said the program has been instrumental in preparing future leaders to obtain Master’s and PhD degrees in Japanese universities, with the ultimate goal of applying their knowledge to Tanzania’s development.
“Today, we are sending off fourteen new participants to Japan and hearing from three returnees who have completed their studies,” he said.
The event also featured presentations from two Japanese companies, which shared their profiles and expectations for collaboration with program participants.
Mr. Hitoshi expressed deep appreciation to the Government of Tanzania for its continued support of JICA’s human resource development initiatives.
“JICA remains committed to Tanzania’s growth under our vision: Leading the world with trust. This is achieved by investing in people, strengthening skills, building knowledge, and deepening cooperation,” he said.
Highlighting the program’s impact, he said this marks the 12th batch sendoff, with more than 133 Tanzanian leaders benefiting so far.
He also linked the initiative to the African Development-focused TICAD framework, emphasizing long-term collaboration, youth empowerment, and co-creation between Africa and Japan.
Addressing the new participants, Mr. Hitoshi encouraged them to embrace learning both inside and outside the classroom, appreciating Japanese culture and building networks that will be crucial for their future contributions.
He congratulated returning participants on completing their studies, noting that their experience in Japan has broadened their skills and prepared them to contribute to national development.
The event reaffirmed JICA’s commitment to fostering youth talent, strengthening Tanzania-Japan relations, and supporting sustainable development through education and international collaboration.
