Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila on Saturday joined the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) in a voluntary walk, an event branded as Tembea na Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute.
The walk is part of a series of activities leading up to the institute’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
Addressing participants after the event, Mr. Chalamila applauded President Samia Suluhu Hassan for what he described as a transformative investment in the country’s health sector, particularly at JKCI.
“For any investment in health institutions to deliver meaningful impact, three critical elements must align qualified human resources, state-of-the-art medical equipment, and modern infrastructure,” he said.
He noted that JKCI has successfully achieved these benchmarks, enabling it to provide advanced cardiac services to Tanzanians and patients from neighboring countries.
As part of its anniversary initiatives, JKCI has introduced a Sports Cardiology unit designed to offer health checks for individuals engaged in regular exercise and various sports, including football.
The service is aimed at promoting preventive care and reducing the risk of heart-related complications among athletes.
The walk started at Farasi Grounds in Oysterbay and ended at JKCI headquarters. Mr. Chalamila urged Dar es Salaam residents to embrace regular exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, remarking that, “Exercise is health.”
