NSSF launches Hifadhi Scheme to protect self-employed Tanzanians

By The Respondent Reporter

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has launched a new initiative aimed at easing healthcare costs and expanding social security coverage for millions of self-employed Tanzanians.

The National Social Security Scheme for the Self-Employed, known as the Hifadhi Scheme, is designed to provide vital social protection to citizens who have traditionally lacked access to such benefits.

Under the scheme, members can contribute TZS 30,000, TZS 52,000, or more per month, with flexible payment options allowing contributions daily, weekly, monthly, or by season.

This flexibility ensures that self-employed workers can participate without straining their finances.

The initiative targets individuals actively engaged in the economy but who have previously missed out on social security benefits.

By including this group, NSSF aims to support government efforts to reduce income poverty and enhance economic resilience.

Members will enjoy a comprehensive range of benefits, including old-age pensions, disability allowances, maternity benefits, medical coverage, survivor benefits, and funeral assistance.

The scheme also allows members to withdraw part or all of their contributions if needed, offering a safety net in times of financial difficulty.

Through the Hifadhi Scheme, NSSF seeks to provide Tanzanians with financial security while boosting productivity and contributing to national economic growth.
