The Government has received TZS 30 million from NMB Bank to fund fan tickets and provide incentives for the Tanzania national football team, Taifa Stars, ahead of their CHAN 2024 quarterfinal match against Morocco on August 22 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking to journalists during the cheque handover ceremony on August 18, 2025, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, said the funds will be used to purchase fan tickets and motivate the players.

He expressed gratitude to NMB Bank for supporting the government’s efforts, led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, to promote sports in Tanzania.

“We thank NMB Bank for their contribution in backing President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision to ensure our national team advances to the finals of the CHAN tournament,” said Msigwa.

He called on other institutions, organizations, and banks to come forward and support the national team, enabling it to achieve strong results in the upcoming match.

He also urged Tanzanians to attend in large numbers and fill Benjamin Mkapa Stadium to cheer for the team.

Donatus Richard, Head of Sales and Branch Network at NMB Bank, said the bank will provide TZS 10 million in player incentives and purchase 10,000 tickets worth TZS 20 million for fans to attend the quarterfinal match.

Richard added that this support will inspire the players to perform well in CHAN 2024, marking a historic moment for Tanzanian football.

“We are proud to support Taifa Stars as they strive for success, honor the nation, and set a remarkable record in international football by reaching the quarterfinals,” Richard said.

He emphasized that NMB Bank will continue collaborating with the Ministry, the National Sports Council, and the Tanzania Football Federation to ensure the growth of football in the country while creating more job opportunities for young people.
