Coach Juma Mwambusi has called on Tanzania national team coach Hemed to refine the team’s tactics ahead of the CHAN 2024 quarterfinals.
He stressed the importance of moving the ball forward and making the most of scoring opportunities rather than relying on frequent backward passes.
Tanzania will face Morocco on August 22 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam in what promises to be a challenging quarterfinal clash.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Mwambusi said that addressing these tactical issues would help the team perform at its best in the knockout stages.
“The upcoming match will be tough. Morocco is a strong side, and their quality is close to ours, as most of their players are also home-based,” he noted.
Mwambusi highlighted that Tanzania’s progress to the quarterfinals reflects the talent and quality of its players but pointed out a key weakness.
“Our players often pass the ball backward instead of pushing forward. Against skilled opponents, this could cost us dearly,” he explained.
He added that efficiently using scoring opportunities is crucial. “In our last group-stage match against Central African Republic, we created many chances but failed to convert them. Opportunities in the quarterfinals will be fewer, so we must make every chance count if we want to advance,” Mwambusi said.
He also praised Tanzanian fans for their support during the group stage and urged them to continue motivating the team in the knockout rounds.
“Their energy inspires the players to fight for victory on home soil,” he added.
