Government Solicitors urged to uphold efficiency and professionalism

The Attorney General, Hamza S. Johari, has urged staff at the Office of the Attorney General to maintain high efficiency and collaboration in executing their duties to achieve better results.

He made the remarks during a staff meeting held in Dodoma on August 18, 2025.

"I remind all staff to continue performing their duties efficiently and collaboratively, while upholding professionalism and quality," said the Attorney General.

During the meeting, Johari officially announced that the former Legal Drafting Division has now become the Office of the Chief Legal Draftsman, effective July 1, 2025. The move is intended to boost productivity in legal drafting services.

"Do not think the Office of the Chief Legal Draftsman has disappeared. It remains part of the Attorney General’s Office. This professional restructuring, called function separation, aims to improve efficiency," he explained.

He added that the Office of the Attorney General and the new Chief Legal Draftsman’s Office will strengthen cooperation to ensure expected efficiency in legal services.

Deputy Attorney General, Samwel M. Maneno, also called on staff to study and understand Tanzania’s Vision 2050 to implement it effectively in their legal advisory roles.

"I remind all staff to read and fully understand Vision 2050. When giving legal advice, ensure it supports the proper implementation of this national vision," he said.

Hon. Maneno further encouraged staff to take advantage of capacity-building trainings outlined in the Office’s work plan to enhance skills and execute duties efficiently.

"I urge all staff to participate in these training opportunities. We, as your leaders, will ensure everyone benefits so that you can deliver your duties professionally," he added.

Chief Legal Draftsman, Mr. Onorius Njole, said the creation of the office is part of government efforts to improve the Attorney General’s functions.

He explained that the office will expand the scope of legal drafting, law consolidation, and interpretation.

"The new office will enable comprehensive preparation of Bills, law consolidation, and interpretation because we now have enough specialists," said Mr. Njole.
