The Government of Tanzania, under the leadership of President Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has successfully extended electricity to all 368 villages in Arusha through the Rural Energy Agency (REA), achieving 100 percent village coverage.

Efforts are now underway to connect the remaining sub-villages in the region.

The announcement was made today by the Chairman of the Rural Energy Board (REB), Ambassador Major General (Retired) Jacob Kingu, during a field visit to monitor ongoing government-led rural electrification projects.

He also met contractors implementing REA initiatives and witnessed residents in Kisongo Juu Ward, Arumeru District, being connected to electricity for the first time.

“The government’s rural electrification project is progressing well. To date, 936 out of 1,505 sub-villages in Arusha are already connected. Work continues at a fast pace to ensure timely completion, enabling residents to access reliable electricity,” Ambassador Kingu said.

He expressed gratitude to President Samia for enabling the government to implement electricity projects efficiently, improving the livelihoods and economic opportunities of communities.

REA continues to execute government-supported projects across the region aimed at providing reliable electricity to enhance social and economic development in rural areas.

Ambassador Kingu added that the agency is committed to expanding power access to peripheral sub-villages and urban outskirts, ensuring communities have dependable electricity to boost local economies.

Adam William, Chairman of Kisongo Juu Ward, hailed the initiative as transformative. “Electricity allows us to operate milling machines for corn and rice, charge phones, and explore other business opportunities. This project will greatly improve our economic activities,” he said.

The government’s electrification drive in Arusha highlights its commitment to improving rural livelihoods and fostering inclusive economic development through reliable energy access.
