Tanzania’s Attorney General,Hamza S. Johari, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to raising legal awareness among citizens, stating that public education is the central objective behind his office’s participation in the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), commonly known as Sabasaba.

Speaking during his visit to the Mwalimu Nyerere Fairgrounds, where the annual exhibition is taking place, Johari emphasized that the Office of the Attorney General is not only a legal advisor to the government but also a public-facing institution dedicated to providing accessible legal guidance.

“Our primary goal in joining this year’s exhibition is to educate the public on the legal roles and responsibilities of the Attorney General’s Office,” he said. “We want citizens to understand how we serve them, how we defend the national interest, and how they can engage with us.”

In a bid to strengthen public access to legal services, the office has deployed a team of experienced lawyers at its exhibition booth to offer free legal consultations, assist with dispute resolution, and address complaints submitted by members of the public.

“This is an opportunity for any citizen with a legal concern to receive direct advice from our qualified team. We are here to serve,”Johari added.

He also reiterated the government’s efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in contract enforcement, saying that his office is closely monitoring the implementation of public agreements to avoid disputes and safeguard state resources.

“We are taking a proactive approach to oversee the execution of government contracts, ensuring compliance with legal procedures and protecting public interest,” he noted.

During his visit, Johari toured several other booths under the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs, including the Office of the Chief Legislative Draftsperson, the Law School of Tanzania, and the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA), engaging with staff and learning about the services they are offering at the fair.

The Attorney General’s booth is located in the Jakaya Kikwete Pavilion, Media Street, Booth No. 24. The Sabasaba Trade Fair, which opened on 28 June, will run until 13 July 2025, drawing exhibitors from both public and private sectors across Tanzania and beyond.
