Tanzanians urged to rally behind national team ahead of CHAN 2025 opener

Tanzanian football fans have been urged to channel the same energy and passion they demonstrate for local football clubs toward supporting the national team, Taifa Stars, as they prepare to open their CHAN 2025 campaign against Burkina Faso.

The appeal was made by Simba SC’s Media and Communication Manager, Ahmed Ally, during an ongoing national campaign to mobilize support for the Taifa Stars ahead of the much-anticipated fixture scheduled for August 2 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

“We understand the power of fans. They bring energy, morale, and momentum. It’s time we shift that support from our clubs to the national team. Let’s come out in large numbers and fill the stadium,” said Ally.

He emphasized that while club football enjoys overwhelming support, the same spirit must now be directed at the national team to help them secure victory in their opening group-stage match.

“This isn’t just about attending an opening match; it’s about standing behind our nation. Whether it rains or shines, we must show up and cheer. A win will give us the right momentum to advance through the group stage and beyond,” he added, referring to the national campaign theme, “It’s Coming Home.”

Ally noted that if Taifa Stars perform well in the first match, it will set a positive tone for the rest of the tournament and increase the chances of qualifying for the next round.

He further stressed the need for patriotic action, saying, “The time for talk is over. This is the moment to show our commitment and love for our country by filling the stands. Our players in camp are working hard  they need our cheers, our chants, our presence.”

As part of the mobilization efforts, regional leaders from Dar es Salaam, Tabora, and Mwanza have pledged logistical support to ensure fans make it to the stadium.

Dar es Salaam has allocated 500 vehicles, while Tabora’s SBA and Mwanza authorities have each provided five vehicles to transport fans, officials, and journalists to the venue.

The CHAN (African Nations Championship) tournament, which features national teams composed exclusively of players from domestic leagues, offers an opportunity for Tanzanian players to shine on the continental stage  but they need the backing of the 12th man: the fans.
