Govt hails abbott fund for supporting Children with special needs

The government has commended the Abbott Fund for its continued partnership in improving the welfare of children with special needs, particularly those under institutional care.

Speaking in Dodoma on July 30, 2025, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Advocate Amon Mpanju, applauded the Abbott Fund for its unwavering support to the government’s efforts to uplift the lives of vulnerable children.

“We acknowledge and appreciate the Abbott Fund’s commitment to working with us to ensure that children raised in national care centres and within communities receive the support and opportunities they deserve,” said Advocate Mpanju.

He made the remarks following a visit by an Abbott Fund delegation to the National Children’s Home in Kikombo, where the organisation donated a range of educational and welfare items, including computers, notebooks, and clothing.

During the visit, Advocate Mpanju also led the delegation in touring key empowerment projects at the centre, including a vegetable farm, fish ponds, and a tailoring workshop initiatives designed to equip children with practical skills for self-reliance after leaving institutional care.

Julia Gin, Deputy Director of the Abbott Fund, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the government to ensure children in care homes have access to quality services and life skills.

“Our goal is to help every child realise their potential by supporting their education and skills development. We remain dedicated to this partnership with the government,” she said.
