All is for Tanzania to host CHAN 2025 tournament

The Tanzanian government has confirmed it is fully prepared to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025, a prestigious tournament featuring local-based players, to be jointly held by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

Tanzania is set to officially open the tournament with a highly anticipated match against Burkina Faso on August 2, 2025, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on July 9, 2025, Deputy Minister of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, who inspected key venues including Gymkhana and Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, affirmed that preparations are nearing completion, with infrastructure upgrades finalized.

“We have overcome several challenges, and over the past month, preparations have advanced significantly,” he stated.

 “Among the three host nations, Tanzania stands out due to substantial government investments in stadium infrastructure.”he added

Deputy Minister Mwinjuma also highlighted the growing excitement among Tanzanians and called on citizens to rally behind the national team.

“Our national squad is currently in Egypt for a 10-day training camp, engaging in friendly matches to fine-tune their performance ahead of CHAN. I am confident in their ability to excel, given the talent and experience within the team,” he said.

Beyond stadium readiness, the Deputy Minister assured that logistical arrangements such as transportation, accommodation, and road infrastructure are progressing smoothly under the supervision of dedicated organizing committees.

To further boost enthusiasm, the government plans to launch extensive promotional campaigns across social media platforms and other media outlets.

He also disclosed that separate organizing committees are managing preparations for CHAN 2025 and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 to ensure all event aspects are efficiently coordinated.

With comprehensive preparations underway, Tanzania is poised to deliver a successful and memorable CHAN tournament that will showcase local football talent on a continental stage.
