The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, Prof Tumaini Nagu, has called on health workers to continue providing quality healthcare services with diligence, professionalism, and adherence to medical ethics.
She made the call on July 4, 2025, during a working visit to Buzuruga and Buswelu health centres in Ilemela Municipality, where she also received a performance report from the municipal health department.
Prof Nagu underscored the importance of strengthening communication within healthcare teams and between health workers and patients, saying this is key to improving trust and enhancing patient care.
"I urge you to continue serving citizens with commitment, compassion and professionalism, while ensuring your communication both internally and with the people you serve is respectful and effective," she said.
She lauded the efforts made by healthcare professionals across the municipality, acknowledging the critical role they play in delivering essential services to the community.
“The government recognises the weight of your responsibility and appreciates the significant work you are doing for Tanzanians,” she said.
Prof Nagu particularly commended Dr William Ntinginya, the in-charge of Buzuruga Health Centre, for increasing the facility’s revenue and using part of it to employ 20 additional staff.
She urged the Regional Medical Officer to ensure equitable distribution of health personnel to address staffing gaps and improve access to quality care.
“We will continue improving health infrastructure at Buzuruga and neighbouring areas. This includes constructing more health centres to reduce patient congestion and minimise the distance people have to walk to access healthcare,” Prof Nagu said.
She also encouraged health workers to maintain the spirit of teamwork and collaboration, noting that the government remains committed to addressing the challenges facing the sector.
Earlier, Ilemela Municipal Chief Medical Officer, Dr Maria Kapinga, outlined key challenges facing the local health department, including a shortage of medical staff, inadequate staff housing, and insufficient medical equipment.
She expressed gratitude to Prof Nagu for visiting the area and offering support to address the concerns raised.
Prof Nagu’s visit forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen primary healthcare systems and ensure citizens have access to reliable and quality services across all regions.
