President Samia Suluhu Hassan has laid the foundation stone for the Kwala Industrial Park in Coast Region, where 200 modern factories are expected to be built.
To support this major development, the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), through its subsidiary ETDCO, has completed the construction of an 18-kilometre, 33-kilovolt power distribution line to the area.
Speaking during the event on July 31, 2025, TANESCO Managing Director Lazalo Twange said the project is part of efforts to strengthen industrial infrastructure and ensure stable power for both the industrial park and the Kwala Inland Dry Port.
“This power line will support the initial phase of around 200 factories. These facilities require reliable energy to operate efficiently,” he said.
On his part, ETDCO’s Director of Technical Services, Engineer Dismas Massawe, said the 33kV line has a capacity of up to 50 megawatts, ensuring steady power supply for the growing industrial and logistics zone.
Pwani Regional TANESCO Manager, Engineer Cosmas Mkaka, said the company is committed to supporting all industrial investors in the area by providing reliable electricity at all times.
The ceremony also marked the official launch of the Kwala Inland Dry Port and the inaugural cargo train journey via the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), signalling Tanzania’s continued efforts to position the area as a key hub for industrial and transport development.
