The Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliament, and Coordination, Dr. Jim Yonazi, on Friday conducted an inspection tour of the Heroes Grounds in Mtumba, Dodoma, to assess ongoing preparations for this year’s Heroes Day commemoration, scheduled for July 25, 2025.

The high-level visit comes as the government intensifies efforts to ensure the national event is conducted with the dignity and honour it deserves.

Speaking after the tour, Dr. Yonazi emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards in organizing the commemoration, noting that the event holds a special place in Tanzania’s history and collective memory.

“I am satisfied with the progress made so far. Preparations are moving in the right direction, and all stakeholders are fully engaged to ensure the event is successful and befitting its national significance,” said Dr. Yonazi.

He toured the main arena, inspected seating arrangements, and reviewed logistical plans presented by officials coordinating the event.

The visit also included a briefing session on ongoing activities, with an emphasis on infrastructure readiness, security, and protocol management.

The 2025 Heroes Day will be officiated by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who will lead the nation in paying tribute to men and women who selflessly served and defended the country.

Organized annually, Heroes Day provides Tanzanians with an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by the nation’s heroes and heroines in securing independence, peace, and development.

This year’s commemoration is expected to attract a wide range of dignitaries, including members of the diplomatic corps, veterans, senior government officials, and the public.

Officials say preparations are on track and that this year’s event will stand out as a moment of national pride and unity.

“It will be a historic occasion,” said one official. “We are committed to delivering a dignified and memorable celebration that honours the legacy of our heroes.”
