The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr. John Jingu, has urged students at the Misungwi Community Development Technical College in Mwanza to become active ambassadors of change by applying the knowledge and skills acquired during their training.
Addressing students on July 4, 2025, Dr. Jingu underscored the importance of using education not only as a tool for personal economic advancement but also as a foundation for upholding strong moral values and driving social progress.
He encouraged students to seize government-led opportunities designed to empower youth and marginalized groups, including the 30 percent procurement allocation for women, youth and persons with disabilities.
“You must be agents of transformation. Take what you have learned here and put it into action in your communities. Be symbols of integrity, discipline and innovation,” said Dr. Jingu.
During the visit, Dr. Jingu also listened to challenges raised by both students and the college administration, which included delays in the completion of student hostels, the need for renovation of aging infrastructure, and shortages of practical training equipment in technical workshops.
The college’s Principal, Mr. Emanuel Mhagama, described Dr. Jingu’s visit as a major morale boost for both students and faculty.
He reaffirmed the college’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with both technical expertise and ethical leadership, capable of driving local development initiatives.
“We are focused on delivering competent graduates who not only have the required skills but also carry the values needed to make a real difference in their communities,” Mr. Mhagama said.
Assistant Director for the Department of Community Development, Ms. Juliana Kibonde, also welcomed the visit, noting a significant rise in female enrollment in science and technical fields.
She praised the shift as a sign of changing societal attitudes and growing gender parity in education.
“It is inspiring to see young women embracing fields once dominated by men. This is a clear indicator of progress and a step forward in building an inclusive workforce,” she said.
The visit reflects the government’s continued commitment to supporting youth empowerment and ensuring that technical and community development institutions serve as engines for inclusive growth and social transformation across the country.
