Chelsea secured the championship in commanding fashion on Sunday evening with a 3-0 victory over French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), in a match that underlined the FIFA Club World Cup e side’s growing strength under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
In a highly anticipated clash between two of Europe’s top clubs, Chelsea showed their intent early, pressing with intensity and playing with precision.
English forward Cole Palmer emerged as the star of the show, scoring twice in the first half to give the Blues a comfortable cushion before the break.
Palmer opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after connecting with a well-timed through ball. The 22-year-old maintained his composure to slot the ball past the PSG goalkeeper, sending the Chelsea supporters into raptures.
Seventeen minutes later, he was on target again this time punishing a defensive lapse with a sharp, low drive from the edge of the area, making it 2-0 and giving Chelsea full control of the game.
PSG looked to mount a response after the interval, but the French champions struggled to break down Chelsea’s organised defence.
Captain Reece James and goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović played key roles in maintaining the clean sheet, ensuring that PSG’s star-studded attack was kept quiet.
Chelsea’s dominance was sealed in the 43th minute when teenage substitute Pedro added a third goal. The youngster, who came on with fresh energy, received a smart pass from Enzo Fernández before unleashing a thunderous shot into the top corner.
Head coach Pochettino, who once managed PSG, praised his players for their maturity and execution.
“This result reflects the hard work and unity within the team. Cole was exceptional, and Pedro showed the courage and quality we are developing in our squad. It’s a proud moment for Chelsea,” Pochettino said.
The win not only secures silverware for Chelsea but also highlights the club’s promising direction under Pochettino.
For PSG, it was a humbling night, as they failed to match Chelsea’s tempo and tactical discipline across the pitch.
