Zanzibar – President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has extended an open invitation to Chinese investors to explore opportunities in the archipelago, with a particular focus on the health sector and research into traditional medicine.
Speaking at the State House in Zanzibar following a meeting with a delegation from the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, President Mwinyi highlighted the strategic importance of deepening collaboration with China in areas that support Zanzibar’s long-term development goals.
“We warmly welcome Chinese investment, especially in sectors that can improve public health and support scientific innovation through traditional medicine research,” said President Mwinyi.
“Zanzibar continues to value the longstanding relationship with China, whose contributions to our development journey both before and after the Revolution remain significant and enduring.”he added
He also praised the medical assistance provided by China, noting the regular deployment of specialist medical teams to Zanzibar.
These teams, he said, offer vital healthcare services, supply medicines, strengthen hospital operations, and provide training for local health professionals.
The visiting delegation was led by Professor Song Li Jwan, Deputy Director of the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Professor Song said the visit aimed to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in advancing health initiatives and traditional medicine research.
“Our presence here reflects China’s broader commitment to supporting Africa through health sector partnerships,” Professor Song explained.
“This initiative is part of the implementation of outcomes from the 2024 Beijing Summit, which prioritised health as a key pillar of China-Africa cooperation.”he added
The visit marks another step in the growing diplomatic and developmental ties between Zanzibar and China, especially in sectors critical to human well-being and sustainable growth.
