Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner  Albert Chalamila has announced that a total of 36 development projects worth TZS 79,255,160,719.44 will be inspected as the 2025 Uhuru Torch Race passes through the region.

Speaking on June 1, 2025, during the official handover of the Uhuru Torch from Lindi Region at the Mbagala Rapid Bus Terminal in Temeke District, RC Chalamila revealed that the torch will cover a total distance of 357.03 kilometers within Dar es Salaam.

The projects scheduled for inspection include completed initiatives and others at various stages of implementation.

According to RC Chalamila, the torch will not only highlight these projects but also serve as a platform to promote national values such as peace, love, unity, development, and patriotism.

“The Uhuru Torch will play a critical role in mobilizing citizens to engage in development initiatives while also encouraging peaceful participation in the upcoming 2025 General Election,” said RC Chalamila.

He emphasized that the region fully supports the 2025 Uhuru Torch theme: "Come Out and Participate in the 2025 General Election Peacefully and Calmly"

In addition, the torch race continues to carry its permanent messages advocating for the fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria, drug abuse, poor nutrition, and corruption.

“It is important that we remain vigilant against these challenges and continue to work together to eliminate corruption and substance abuse in our communities,” he stressed.

RC Chalamila also outlined the torch’s route through Dar es Salaam Region. The race will begin in Temeke District on June 1, followed by Kigamboni on June 2, Ilala on June 3, Kinondoni on June 4, and will conclude in Ubungo District on June 5. The torch will then be handed over to Tanga Region on June 6, 2025.

In his closing remarks, RC Chalamila welcomed the national Uhuru Torch runners on behalf of all residents of Dar es Salaam.

He prayed for God’s protection and blessings upon their journey and called upon the people of Dar es Salaam to offer their full cooperation from the first day of the race to its conclusion.
