NEMC promotes plastic recycling ahead of 'World Environment Day'

By The Respondent Reporter

As Tanzania prepares to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) is calling on the public to reduce plastic use and focus on recycling.

The call views to protect the environment and support the circular economy by turning plastic waste into new and useful products.

During the ongoing World Environment Day exhibitions at Jakaya Kikwete Grounds in Dodoma, taking place from June 1 to 5, NEMC’s Acting Central Zone Manager, Mr. Novatus Mushi, said the Council is using the event to raise awareness.

He explained that managing plastic waste properly not only helps the environment but also creates economic opportunities for individuals and communities.

This year’s World Environment Day theme is: “Our Environment and the Tanzania We Want; Let’s Act Now, Control Plastic Use.” The main celebration will take place on June 5, with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, expected to be the Guest of Honour.

NEMC invites the public to visit its exhibition pavilion, where officers are providing information on how to manage waste, the benefits of recycling, the importance of conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and how to follow environmental laws.

The Council is also sharing tips on protecting biodiversity to support sustainable development in Tanzania.
