The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national development by laying out a comprehensive strategy to meet the Government's revenue collection target of TZS 34.93 trillion in the 2025/26 financial year.
This follows a high-level three-day management meeting held from June 18 to 20, 2025, at the GerWill Hotel in Dodoma, led by Commissioner General Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda.
The meeting brought together TRA’s regional and departmental leaders, as well as budget and economic experts, to align the institution’s operations with the Government’s fiscal priorities.
Mr. Mwenda underscored that achieving the revenue target is not just a technical goal but a national responsibility that directly affects every Tanzanian citizen.
“The revenue we collect enables the Government to fund essential services like healthcare, education, infrastructure, and water supply. It is our duty to ensure that this goal is met with integrity, professionalism, and determination,” he said.
During the meeting, TRA management broke down the national collection target and distributed specific goals to all departments and regional offices across the country, based on each region’s economic potential and business activity.
This approach is designed to ensure a fair and transparent contribution from every unit within the Authority.
The overall target for TRA is to collect TZS 36.07 trillion before tax refunds, with a net target of TZS 34.93 trillion after refunds. These funds will play a central role in financing the Government’s development agenda and delivering quality public services to citizens.
Mr. Mwenda called on all TRA staff to remain focused and results-driven, while also strengthening collaboration with key partners including taxpayers, financial institutions, and the private sector to improve tax compliance and create an environment that encourages voluntary tax payment.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment from all TRA leaders to work diligently and uphold public trust by ensuring that revenue is collected efficiently and equitably.
This strategic planning session marks a key milestone in ensuring that every Tanzanian shilling collected goes toward building a stronger, more inclusive economy that benefits all citizens.
