TCRA invites public views on new communications license requests

By The Respondent Reporter

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has announced the receipt of new license applications under the Converged Licensing Framework (CLF), a regulatory system that supports transparency and competition in the communications sector.

The Authority is now calling on the public to submit written comments or objections within 14 days from the date of the announcement, as part of its commitment to inclusive decision-making.

Among the applicants is Jirani Network Limited, which has applied for a District Network Facility License.

The company’s shareholding includes Daniel John, a Tanzanian citizen, with 40 percent, Gispogon Limited (Tanzanian) also holding 40 percent, while 20 percent of the shares are currently unallocated. Another applicant, Telosoft Enterprises Limited, is seeking the same type of license.

Its shares are equally divided between John Kuraba and Baraka Magulumali Mtango, both Tanzanians.

In the broadcasting space, Gritano Company Ltd is applying for a District Content Services License for radio.

The company is fully Tanzanian-owned, with shareholders Johannes Ntoma (40%), Malendo Group of Marwa (25%), Shukrani Marwa Gitano (15%), and Mionjozi Johannes Gitano (20%).

Meanwhile, leading telecom firm Vodacom Tanzania PLC is seeking a Content Transmission Services License.

Vodacom Group Limited holds 75 percent of the company shares, while the remaining 25 percent allocated for Tanzanian citizens remain unclaimed.

TCRA, operating under the Electronic and Postal Communications Act, Cap. 306, has reminded the public of its right to engage in the licensing process by submitting views or concerns about any of the applications.

The Authority affirms that all feedback received within the 14-day period will be carefully considered during the evaluation of the applications.

This open consultation process reflects TCRA’s dedication to fostering a competitive, fair, and citizen-centered communications industry.

It also offers stakeholders an opportunity to help shape the sector’s growth by ensuring that only qualified and responsible operators are granted licenses.

Citizens, institutions, and civil society groups interested in participating can forward their submissions directly to TCRA through official channels, including its website and physical office in Dar es Salaam.
