The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has announced that it has received an application from Smartx Limited, a licensed telecommunications service provider, requesting approval for the transfer of company shares.
The proposed transfer involves a change in the ownership structure of the company, which holds an Application Service License.
According to the application submitted to TCRA, Smartx Limited currently has its shares distributed among several shareholders, including Image Technologies Limited (Tanzania) holding 80 percent, and two Indian nationals Tanveer Dawood Kalbellkar and Binoy Rama Binoy holding the remaining 20 percent combined.
If approved, the new ownership will involve four shareholders, all of whom are expected to be Tanzanian citizens.
The proposed new shareholding structure will include Arif Mohammed Kassam Ghalley with 35 percent, Mohammedam Abdulaziz Bambu with 25 percent, Theophil Jeremiah Mutagaywa with 20 percent, and Tanveer Dawood Kalbellkar retaining 20 percent.
TCRA is calling upon members of the public, stakeholders, and any interested parties to submit their views or objections regarding this proposed change.
In accordance with Section 8 of the Electronic and Postal Communications Act (Cap 306), TCRA will consider all feedback received before making a final decision on the application.
The Authority underscores the importance of transparency and public participation in such regulatory matters.
This proposed change is significant as it reflects a shift towards increased Tanzanian ownership in the ICT sector.
Such a move may have implications for service delivery, decision-making, and the broader goal of empowering local investors and enhancing national economic interests.
TCRA encourages members of the public to actively engage by submitting their comments through its official communication channels within the provided timeframe.
