Tanzania’s TANAPA wins seven World Travel Awards

Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) has won seven accolades at the 2025 World Travel Awards, marking a significant achievement in the country’s ongoing efforts to promote conservation and boost international tourism.

The awards, presented annually to recognize excellence across the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries, saw TANAPA’s protected areas sweep multiple categories, further reinforcing Tanzania’s global standing as a premier wildlife destination.

Serengeti National Park was named Africa’s Leading National Park for the seventh consecutive year, lauded for its iconic Great Migration and diverse wildlife. The park is considered one of the most celebrated safari destinations globally and remains a cornerstone of Tanzania’s tourism appeal.

Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s tallest mountain, earned the title of Africa’s Leading Mountain National Park, in recognition of its growing appeal among climbers and nature enthusiasts worldwide.

Nyerere National Park, one of the continent’s largest wildlife sanctuaries, won Africa’s Leading Scenic National Park, praised for its expansive landscapes and ecological richness.

Other winners included:

  • Tarangire National ParkAfrica’s Leading Elephant Safari Park

  • Serengeti National ParkAfrica’s Leading Big Five Safari Park

  • Ruaha National ParkAfrica’s Leading Cultural Safari Destination

  • Kitulo National ParkAfrica’s Leading Honeymoon Safari Destination

TANAPA officials described the awards as a major boost to Tanzania’s visibility on the global tourism map. 

“These recognitions strengthen our position as a top destination for sustainable tourism and demonstrate the effectiveness of our conservation strategies,” a spokesperson said.

The achievements also align with government efforts under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration to grow the tourism sector as a key driver of economic development. Initiatives such as the Royal Tour documentary and strategic investment in tourism infrastructure have helped attract global attention.

Tanzania boasts 21 national parks spread across the country, offering a variety of experiences—from game drives and mountain trekking to cultural tourism and botanical exploration.

Tourism remains a vital sector in Tanzania’s economy, contributing significantly to GDP, employment, and foreign exchange earnings.
