Dar es Salaam. Tanzania is poised to make another significant mark on the global tourism map as it prepares to host the 32nd edition of the World Tourism Awards for Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
The high-profile event is scheduled to take place on June 28, 2025, at the Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 18, during a tour of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism’s pavilion at the ongoing Public Service Week exhibitions in Dodoma, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Hassan Abbasi, described the opportunity to host the awards as a recognition of Tanzania’s growing stature in global tourism.
“This is not just an event; it is a testament to the immense respect our country commands in the international tourism arena, thanks in large part to the leadership and vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan,” said Dr Abbasi.
He cited Tanzania’s recognition as the World’s and Africa’s Leading Safari Destination in 2024 as a clear indication of the country’s rising profile, crediting the achievement to sustained promotional efforts including the globally acclaimed Royal Tour documentary led by President Samia herself.
“The decision to bring these prestigious awards to Tanzania is a direct result of that commitment to showcasing our natural and cultural heritage to the world,” he added.
According to Dr Abbasi, preparations for the event are in their final stages, coordinated by the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB).
The ceremony is expected to draw over 500 key stakeholders from across Africa and beyond, including travel industry professionals, media representatives, and influencers.
Millions more are expected to follow the event via international television broadcasts and digital platforms.
Hosting the World Tourism Awards is not only a major public relations win for Tanzania but also a unique opportunity to attract more investment and visitors to the country’s diverse tourism offerings from its world-renowned national parks and wildlife to its pristine beaches, cultural sites, and warm hospitality.
“This event will shine a global spotlight on Tanzania, reinforcing our position as a premier tourism destination,” Dr Abbasi concluded.
