President Samia Suluhu Hassan has reaffirmed her government’s commitment to reshaping Tanzania’s education system to focus on skills and practical training, ensuring that young people are well-equipped to meet the demands of the modern job market.

Speaking during the foundation stone laying ceremony for Mwamapalala Vocational Secondary School in Itilima District, President Samia said the government, through Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), is implementing strategic reforms aimed at empowering youth with employable skills.

“This is part of our broader vision to ensure that our education system not only imparts knowledge but also practical skills. We want our young people to graduate with the ability to either secure meaningful employment or create their own opportunities,” said the President.

Mwamapalala is one of 103 new vocational secondary schools being built across the country. The institutions will combine traditional academic subjects with technical and vocational training to enhance job-readiness among students.

“We expect teaching at this school to commence by January next year,” President Samia announced, highlighting the government’s commitment to fast-tracking education infrastructure as a national development priority.

The Head of State also praised the people of Itilima for their progress in key sectors and urged parents and guardians to make full use of the facilities being built to secure a brighter future for their children.

“I congratulate the people of Itilima for the strides you’ve made in development. Today’s ceremony represents all 103 schools under construction, and when the time comes for their official opening, I will also officiate on behalf of all,” she added.

President Samia is on the fourth day of her working tour in the Simiyu Region, which began on Sunday, June 15.

The visit aims to inspect development projects, engage with local communities, and reinforce the government’s resolve to deliver inclusive growth through improved public services and infrastructure.
